voices with purpose
Based in Calgary, Alberta, Mount Royal Kantorei is the flagship chorus of Mount Royal Conservatory and one of Canada’s most celebrated classical choirs. United by values of diversity, inclusivity and compassion, our mixed-voice, auditioned choir of 90 members has been making music for 30 years.
For choristers, Mount Royal Kantorei offers a diverse and innovative environment to learn, collaborate and grow as a vocalist. We perform throughout the season for audiences of all sizes - from the spectacular Bella Concert Hall to more intimate community concerts.
Our Artistic Director, John Morgan, is a well-known leader and educator who works across multiple music genres with some Calgary’s best known groups including The Young Canadians and Revv 52. Under John’s leadership, Mount Royal Kantorei has established a reputation for excellence in both classical and contemporary choral music.

In 2019, Mount Royal Kantorei was selected to compete for the Fleischmann International Trophy Competition at the Cork International Choral Festival. Due to the pandemic, the trip was postponed. We hope to compete in 2025.
During the pandemic, Mount Royal Kantorei began recording and releasing music videos with the purpose of reaching new audiences with important and moving pieces of work. Through these videos, we have grown a global following of which we are incredibly proud. You can see our library of video releases here.
In 2023, Mount Royal Kantorei established the Kantorei Choral Festival, an ambitious 5-day event which has quickly established itself as one of Canada’s largest and most prestigious choral music gatherings. Kantorei Choral Festival attracts 800+ choristers from across Canada and around the world to take part in workshops and masterclasses with guest artists and composers and culminates in a spectacular en-masse performance in the Bella Concert Hall.
